Charlottesville Music was established in 1983 by Mike
and Anna Lewis on a shoe string budget, credit cards, and folks selling
their guitars on consignment. Having worked at another local retail music
store, Mike and Anna realized that the Charlottesville market was in dire
need of a combo music store that catered to the pro, semi-pro and aspiring
musicians in the area. With that need in mind, Mike and Anna set about
creating a store with top product lines, a knowledgeable staff, and a
great vibe. Charlottesville Music became not only a great place to buy
really cool gear, but also a fun place to hang out, talk music, and meet
other musicians.
In 1991, Mike and Anna sold Charlottesville Music to
their long time friend, Billy Brockman. Billy had been playing music full
time for years but had worked with Anna previously at another store and
worked part time for Mike and Anna. At 41 Billy decided it was time to
get a “real job” and having been on both sides of the counter,
buying a music store seemed a good fit. Not wanting to mess up a good
thing, Billy made very few changes to the business and built on the earlier
success of Mike and Anna.
There have been many changes and challenges in
the retail music industry, but after 23 years, Charlottesville Music prides
itself on being an old school guitar and amp shop selling great gear at
competitive prices by a knowledgeable and friendly staff. Thanks for visiting
